HOW TO COPE WHILST CARING FOR AN ILL PARENT | BALANCING CARE RESPONSIBILITIES WITH A CAREER | DELOITTE PODCAST ON WORKING CARERS | DOWNLOADABLE EXPLAINER TO SUPPORT WORKING CARERS

Welcome back to Work, Family & You.

In the UK, we’ve been experiencing a ‘childcare crisis’ for some time, as the lack of affordable care options have collided with the cost-of-living crisis. Yet in countries with ageing populations, particularly those across Europe and Asia, governments and businesses need to be preparing for an ‘eldercare crisis’. What about those individuals – around 75% of whom are women – left with the emotional and logistical responsibility of care? Not to mention their careers...

ECC CEO and Coach Geraldine Gallacher has written a heartfelt piece How to Cope Whilst Caring for an Ill Parent. She shares her experience and offers some valuable self-care reminders to others who may be in similar positions.

Kate Buller, ECC Coach and Director of Coaching, and Melany Green, ECC Client Lead and Executive Coach, have co-written a thoughtful article to support employees and shed light for managers on Balancing Care Responsibilities With a Career. It includes valuable recommendations and links to resources to help those who are working whilst caring.

We'd love to hear from you if you have seen, experienced or heard about any organisations effectively supporting carers. Please email us and join the conversation on the eldercare crisis.

In Shifting the Needle Episode 7 Geraldine Gallacher speaks with Isla Thomas, Design Research Manager & Head of the Carers Network at Deloitte uk about care responsibilities – the myths, the realities and what the new Carers Leave Act means for employee caregivers.

For employers needing a steer on supporting working carers in the workplace, we have put together a helpful explainer.
